'1974 NEWS FROM NOWHERE' Wall Plate by Simon Dredge

£450.00

This beautiful plate represents the opening of News from Nowhere in 1974. It’s an independently run book shop on Bold Street, celebrating its 50th anniversary this year.

The plate is made from porcelain, using ceramic body stains, spray paint and varnish to create the wonderful layered surface patterns.

Diameter: 27 cm

This plate is part of an installation of six plates Simon has made for our 'In the Window' series to celebrate Pride in Liverpool 2024. Funded by the Ulrike Michal Foundation for the Arts.

Liverpool based, Simon is an English ceramic artist whose work explores the impact of history in shaping our cultural understanding. For the Pride window Simon wanted to celebrate the diversity of the LGBTQ+ community in Liverpool and the wider Merseyside area.

From the use of Polari, a secret language used by the community for many years to pubs and clubs that people may remember, and previous Pride festivals, this collection seeks to highlight an important history and recognise how we should always appreciate what the past has given this community.
