Sandbanks Pendant by Bronwen Gwillim

This pendant is part of an ongoing series inspired by the shapes of the sandbanks that disappear and re-emerge with the rise and fall of the tides. The colours are reminiscent of the boats in the harbour that sit on the mud and sand at low tide.

It is made from beach plastic set into a resin base with added plastic details and etched lines on a waxed cotton cord with an adjustable fitting.

Pendant: (L) 7.2 x (W) 4.1 cm

Max length of cord: 45 cm

Bronwen makes statement, one-off pieces of wearable art jewellery from waste plastic. She collects, reuses and upcycles beach plastic from the beaches where she lives on the Pembrokeshire coast.

Bronwen imbues these soulless materials with a natural, weather-worn character by working their surfaces till their colours soften and they feel natural in the hand. She uses shapes and textures inspired by the sea and her walks on the foreshore at the bottom of her garden.
