Beth Elliot

I am inspired by nature and influenced by artists across many mediums, from 19th-century illustrators to contemporary makers around the world. I’m drawn to bold, flowing patterns that wrap around a pot’s surface, using strong lines, whimsy, and the interplay of opposites—light and dark, positive and negative, thin and thick. I explore how imagery and form work together, creating pieces where design and structure feel unified and in motion.

My work is primarily wheel-thrown; each piece is painted with underglaze and carved at the leather-hard stage using the ancient sgraffito technique. I glaze the interiors, while exteriors are often left unglazed, revealing the marks of the maker.

The tactile quality of the tool marks invites touch. I love seeing someone pick up a piece, feel its surface, and smile as they connect with it through both touch and sight.
