Own Art Scheme

The Bluecoat Display Centre (Bdc) have been a gallery member of Own Art since its early days. Over the years we have seen the scheme enable the purchase of a customer’s first piece of contemporary craft work or help them build an amazing collection.

How it works

Own Art is a national initiative that makes it easier and affordable for everyone to buy contemporary art and craft by providing interest-free loans.

Own Art can be used to purchase original work ranging from £100 - £2,500 across all disciplines, from limited edition prints to jewellery and textiles. The selected piece(s) must be made by a living artist, as the scheme aims to support contemporary artists and makers.

To apply for the loan you will need to show proof of ID (for example, a utility bill or driving licence) along with a credit or debit card as proof of signature.

Eligibility and approval are subject to further terms and conditions, please visit the Own Art website for details: https://www.ownart.org.uk/how-to-own-art/

How we can help

We have always been enthusiastic advocates of Own Art and now facilitate the electronic version which takes less than 10 minutes to complete in the gallery and provides an instant credit decision, allowing the customer to take their chosen piece(s) home on the same day! This also enables us to ensure the maker is paid swiftly.

We can also offer a remote version that can be completed at home by the customer, which means that visitors to the Bdc from all over the UK can easily purchase work by our community of makers using an Own Art loan.
