Barbara Hepworth Textile Art Brooch by Michelle Holmes

£30.00

Round brooch featuring a unique free machine embroidered image of artist and sculptor Barbara Hepworth

Dame Jocelyn Barbara Hepworth DBE was an English artist and sculptor. Her work exemplifies Modernism and in particular modern sculpture. Along with artists such as Ben Nicholson and Naum Gabo, Hepworth was a leading figure in the colony of artists who resided in St Ives during the Second World War.

Michelle trained in Embroidered Textiles at Loughborough University and now works from a studio housed within an old red brick Methodist Chapel in Melbourne just over the border into Derbyshire. Her creative practice is rooted in her love for drawing with stitch, appliqué and collage. She works by re-purposing fabrics and exploring the reflective and tactile qualities of natural fibres.

Stiches are made with free machine embroidery made on a Bernina Sewing Machine coupled with hand stitching.

Materials - re-purposed wool, silk and leather with a shell and button and a soft leather backing and metal brooch pin

Dims:   Height  6.5cm x Width 5.5cm
