Earl Grey Portrait Textile Art Brooch by Michelle Holmes

£30.00

Round brooch featuring a unique free machine embroidered image inspired by Earl Grey tea and it's creator.

Earl Grey tea is a black tea blend that has been flavoured with Bergamot oil.  It has been suggested that 'Earl's grey mixture' may have been named after Charles Grey, the 2nd Earl Grey and British Prime Minister in the 1930's.  It is this story that has inspired this wonderful piece of free machine and hand embroidery mixed with applique.

Renowned textile artist Michelle trained in Embroidered Textiles at Loughborough University and now works from a studio housed within an old red brick Methodist Chapel in Melbourne just over the border into Derbyshire. Her creative practice is rooted in her love for drawing with stitch, appliqué and collage. She works by re-purposing fabrics and exploring the reflective and tactile qualities of natural fibres.

Stiches are made with free machine embroidery made on a Bernina Sewing Machine coupled with hand stitching.

Materials - re-purposed wool, silk and leather with a soft leather backing and metal brooch pin

Dims:   Height  6.5cm x Width 5.5cm
