I am drawn to making birds because, at rest, they make a self contained form. They remind me of pots.

Their feathers are so intricate and vivid that I am defeated by them. But still I try to evoke the lightness of birds in the way that I work the clay and the slips and oxides that I apply later.

I work precisely in some areas and more sketchily in others. I want the process of modelling and firing to be present. And in doing so habitat, something chalk or stone-like, might also be suggested in the finished piece.
