Molly Attrill

Molly Attrill

The distinctive feature of Molly’s work is her hand drawn figurative decoration, using sgraffito, wax resist and brush techniques.

After working as an apprentice to Bernard Leach’s second son, Michael, in North Devon in the early 1970s, she trained at Farnham (WSCAD) under Henry Hammond. She then worked as a ‘thrower’ in potteries in France & Canada before setting up her own pottery at Mersley Farm on the Isle of Wight in 1982.

In 2014 Molly moved to Binnel Studios, a small complex of private ateliers. Having worked exclusively in earthenware (slip & maiolica) the move gave her the freedom to explore the characteristics of high fired stoneware and porcelain. The work shown is oxidized white stoneware with sgraffito decoration and reduction stoneware with cobalt brushwork.
