Jane Austen was an English novelist known primarily for her six novels, which implicitly interpret, critique, and comment on the English landed gentry at the end of the 18th century. Austen's plots often explore the dependence of women on marriage for the pursuit of favourable social standing and economic security.
Renowned textile artist Michelle trained in Embroidered Textiles at Loughborough University and now works from a studio housed within an old red brick Methodist Chapel in Melbourne just over the border into Derbyshire. Her creative practice is rooted in her love for drawing with stitch, appliqué and collage. She works by re-purposing fabrics and exploring the reflective and tactile qualities of natural fibres.
Stitches are made with free machine embroidery made on a Bernina Sewing Machine coupled with hand stitching.
