Raised ‘Stone Wall’ raised dish by Sarah Bartlem

£180.00

A raised organic-shaped dish in a buff stoneware clay, simply finished with a loosely applied off-white matte glaze. It works well as a standalone piece or could be used as a serving dish.

Sarah hand-built this one-off piece and decorated using a wax resist technique, making large and small irregular shapes which are reminiscent of patterns formed within the stone walls of the rural Welsh landscape.

Sarah Bartlem’s ‘Stone Wall’ collection is inspired by the area where she now lives in north east Wales. This is her square mile, or ‘Filltir Sgwâr’ – an idea which conveys a deeply felt connection to a specific area, the people within it, and the shared experiences that create a sense of identity and belonging. Her own village of Cilcain is surrounded by stone buildings, mossy walls and a beautifully rugged landscape, all of which find an echo in her work.
