Runswick Bay Woven Cotton Scarf by Hem Handwoven
£333.00
A beautiful and delicately crafted Runswick Bay Woven Cotton Scarf by Hem Handwoven. Handwoven in 9 shades of very fine cotton in a Fibonacci gradient. Gently shifting from deep turquoise and teal, to lighter shades of sea spray and orange the scarf is woven in a double-sided Scandinavian structure, producing triangular sails of the yachts that moor off the coast. The palette is inspired by the villlage- the white cottages with blue paintwork, terracotta roof tiles, geraniums in window boxes and orange kayaks on the slipway. The perfect weight of scarf, and is great for people sensitive to wool and looking for a gossamer-light summer scarf. Cotton is non itchy and naturally regulates temperature. Very light, with a good drape.

"I weave garments and textiles for the home in natural fibres- from an environmental perspective, producing the least impactful fabrics. Place is significant for my practice- I’m surrounded by fields full of sheep so wool is my favourite versatile, and renewable of fibres. I’m fascinated by the fibreshed movement, which seeks to link land reclamation, farming, yarn spinning, weaving and garment production together in small community networks. This linking of beginnings to endings, inputs to outputs that creates connections between people and preserves skills and creates local small-scale production that is my driver .I am motivated by a need to de-scale production levels, produce and value quality fabrics, repair what we have and see fabrics for their technical and artistic value." - Helen Swift
